Floral Mastery: A Summer Workshop in Sustainable Botanical Design

Friday, August 15 · 9 AM – 4 PM

Price: $495

Step into the height of summer and into your own creative expression at this one-day floral design workshop set amid the abundant gardens of Sage & Solace, hosted by artist and land steward Barb Pearson @sageandsolace_ and led by acclaimed floral designer Rachel Kiers of @bosco.botanicals.

You'll also dive into design principles, colour theory, and sustainable floral mechanics. In the afternoon, we shift to the art of photographing your work. You'll learn styling tips, camera angles, and editing techniques, with support from professional photographer Anne Van Woudenberg @amoriamade, who will capture portraits of you with your final piece for your social media or personal archive. Digital images will be shared post-event.

A gourmet picnic and beverages are included as part of your ticket price. We will be sharing this meal at a long table set up in the beautiful garden.

Is this for me?

Whether you're a seasoned floral designer, an inspired enthusiast, or a novice interested in learning new skills, this workshop invites you to deepen your relationship with flowers, nature, and your own artistic instincts.

What is included:

We begin the day with coffee, pastries, and a guided garden walk, as Barb introduces you to the blooms she’s lovingly cultivated and answers any questions you may have about about the harvesting process, design uses, or sustainable farming. With shears in hand, you'll gather your own armful of organically grown botanicals—dahlias, cosmos, foliage, and more—for a day of hands-on creation.

What to expect:

Under Rachel’s expert guidance, you’ll complete three distinct floral projects:

A hand-tied bouquet to awaken intuitive design

A long-table floral tablescape, created collaboratively and enjoyed during a beautiful catered al fresco lunch

A compote still-life arrangement, inspired by the Dutch Masters—rich, romantic, and expressive

All materials, flowers, and tools are included. As well as morning refreshments and lunch in the garden.

You’ll leave with:

A hand-tied bouquet and your own still-life arrangement

Professional photos of you and your creations

Renewed confidence in your floral artistry

A sense of connection—to nature, to beauty, and to a community of like-hearted creatives

What do you need to bring?

Sun screen, a hat and sunglasses

Comfortable footwear; you will be on your feet through much of the day and note that there are uneven surfaces on the farm.

A sweater in the event it is cooler or windy.

Please note that if it is hot to be in the sun the class will be conducted under cover.

This is the final event at Sage & Solace, —a celebration of the land, the blooms, and the creative hearts that have gathered here before the farm is sold in October 2025. We would be honoured if you came to celebrate this transition with us.
