Earthscapes

A few years ago, I moved from downtown to a flower farm in order to heal a piece of the earth—and myself. What I witnessed in that transition dismayed me: how little attention we give to the true cost of what we consume, and how often beauty is overlooked in the rush for convenience. My Earthscapes series was born from that reckoning.

These mixed media pieces begin with recycled papers—layers of history and discard—built up, then sanded down with a power sander to expose what lies beneath. I use collage, aggressive mark-making, gouges, and texture to echo the wounds we’ve inflicted on the land. But always, I return to light. Inks, paints, and subtle color glazes are laid over the scarred surfaces, offering a glimpse of hope and the possibility of renewal.

Earthscapes are both a visual lament and an offering. They ask us to look closely, to remember our belonging to the natural world, and to choose differently. If they resonate with you, it may be because you, too, believe that beauty can awaken awareness—and that through conscious action, we can repair what we’ve broken. These works are a call to reimagine our relationship with the earth, one layer at a time.
